A Noble Cowl

I received some gorgeous yellow merino wool (super soft and squishy!) from a friend who lives in Australia during a swap I did in the summer time. I loved the wool but wasn't sure what to do with it.
I started this cowl Friday eve and finished later that night! It was a quick knit. It's quite large, but I like my scarfs that way. I'm working on making some cute pins so I can wear it similiar to this.

Here it is flat! Isn't the leaf pattern gorgeous? The knitting itself wasn't too hard, I did 1 and a half repeats of the pattern. You need to be able to knit in the round, knit, purl, and do simple decreases and increases (k2tog, yo) The pattern on ravelry can be found here.

A closeup of the detail. I really like lace details lately.

What do you think? Do any of you knit? I find it really relaxing and it keeps my hands busy while watching movies, etc.

  1. Wow, that is really good, I never learnt, how long did it take you to get this good?

  2. Thanks Nicole!
I took a knitting class last spring. It took me forever to learn how to knit English style, (the way most people knit) and always felt awkward for me. Eventually my instructor taught me how to knit Continental style, basically involving changing the hands you hold the yarn in. I crochet using my right hand to hold the needle as well, so it made MUCH more sense to me! After that I just practiced doing rows and rows of plain ole' knitting until I could do it without looking. In knitting theres basically only a few stitches you need to learn, after that you can make so many patterns using a combination of those stitches!

If you're interested in learning, I find www.knittinghelp.com to be the most helpful website! :) They have written instructions and videos in both English and Contintental styles!

  4. Awesome! Knittinghelp definitely is a great site I would recommend :) There are many youtubers out there with great videos as well. I find the videos help a ton with getting the hang of knitting.

  5. Just saw your post via Phyrra's page and my oh my! I love this cowl! The color looks great on you too!

Now, if I could just find the time to finish this blanket, maybe I could finally make a cowl for myself... it'll probably be well into spring before that happens though :D

  6. Thank you! :D

I'm jealous! What kind of blanket are you making?
I've started so many blankets and could never get into it. I really enjoy doing small pieces with simple repeats, but I don't have the patience to sit and knit a blanket. :( Last year I made a couple squares with an adorable bunny pattern for easter, but quit after the third square. Maybe this year I'll pull that project out again...

  7. The one I'm trying to finish up is a simple (and thus quite boring to sit down and work on) crochet filet blanket. it has a bit of a fancy floral pattern on it. it's for my grandmother :)

but, like i said... I get bored so fast when I work on it, so when I rarely do have free time I do an awful job of working on it.

If you're anything like me, I'd have to pull that easter blanket out now in order to MAYBE get it done by easter haha
